    Iron Decorative Strap

Can anyone recognize or point me in the right direction?

I found an 1800's relic. It is iron about 8" in length, but it is broken on one end. I found multiples of these in the ground in a pit. It tapers off and flattens on one end and has a small hole with a recessed or counter-sunk bolt or screw hole. The other side of the flat piece is slightly curved as if it slides in or fits flush on a rounded or semi-rounded item.

It is decorative in function or decorative and functional perhaps.

I thought maybe some type of carriage strap or part or something coach or train related?? Click image for larger version.

First off... welcome to Tnet from Toronto Unclebakon!
I wish that every new member who joined Tnet simply to have a find identified offered as much info and as many pics as you do!

My first thought is that it's a part off of a horse drawn wagon.
This piece doesn't strike me as being blacksmith-made, it's more likely to have been cast in a factory.
What part of the country was it found in?

The area is North MS. It is from a plantation that may have site contamination but remains uninhabited currently. I think that you are correct that this is a cast piece. I am trying to reconstruct the layout and landscape from items found for a book that I am writing about it.
