Eagle Buckle from an 1820-1890 site? War of 1812? Civil War? Militia? Cheap trinket?

I've exhausted google with no luck. This is my last resort. I believe it's nickel or silver plated copper about 3.5" x 2.5". Just a plain Napoleonic style eagle with nothing in its talons facing to its left. It does have a curve to it, but it seems too lightweight to be a waist belt buckle. There was a standard buckle hook on the reverse side until it fell off after digging it up. The site is from 1820-1890 gunsmith and mills. I've found bronze pistol barrels, flintlock mechanisms, and early 1800's flat buttons in the same area. It's not a battle site or camp location. Home site. Upstate South Carolina. Please help, and thanks!

Silver on copper was common pre-Civil War military buckles. I didn't see a match for your piece but I would guess 1830 - 40 militia buckle.

You can read about them here:
