    R. BRO’S & CO. Snake pattern Suspender Clip or Tensioner??

A friend of mine dug this snake pattern clip or fastener in an area where he has dug many civil war relics.
Wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this?
We believe there was likely a serpent head on it that broke off.
Not sure if it is a suspender clip or some type of fastener?
Also curious if anyone can date the makers mark?
    Thanks in advance.

It's a beautiful unique piece for sure. I've never seen anything like it.
If you could get us the dimensions, that would be a big help.

Maybe have your friend take a pic of it next to a coin, a pic of the back would be helpful as well.

That is a neat piece for sure. I have never seen one like it, but have seen R. Bro's & Co. before. My notes say that it was connected to E.B Royston & Brothers Clothiers of Baltimore, circa 1871

I found where a few other people dug similar items.
There were 2 to a set and they interlocked.
Some people are claiming that they are confederate, but I believe that is mere speculation.
    Pretty cool find, nonetheless.
