    Large Cross

    I got a new permission to detect and the landowner asked if I had any information on a cross that was given to her. I told her I would put it on this site if there was any information to be found about it. She said an neighbor found it on an old stone wall on her property, that is all I know. It is a couple feet tall, and has a hoop to hang. Appreciate any help with style, dating etc... Sorry can't seem to get pictures to view in proper orientation. thanks in advance.

    I have seen this kind of item that was used as a gable end ornament on houses.

    It's a realitively modern wall hanging.
    The decorative metal pieces are arc welded together and not forged.

    I don't get the sense that it's very old. I would call it "vintage" (not older than me).

    It looks like something my mother had hanging in our living room in the early 70's (ahem... that's 1970's).

    That said, you can still buy similar pieces on Amazon:
