    Civil War Shotgun bolt?

Found this years ago at an early Civil War battle in Virginia.
Thought it might be bolt to a shotgun?
    Any help is appreciated.

Don't know what it is, but bolt action rifles didn't come in until 15-20 years after the War between the States.

In the US that's true. The Prussians were playing with bolt -actions "needle guns" in the 1850's But unlikely in our war.

The item could be a snapped bell clapper or tip off a tractor throttle, or a dozen other similar shaped things.

America was founded by tough hell-raisers. Rugged citizens who evaded taxes, spoke strongly against tyranny, grew tobacco, brewed beer, distilled spirits, and smuggled weapons. And it will be saved by those same types of citizens.

    Harsh condition...Of course.

Might the smallest diameter "pin" part fit in the hole in the flintlock topjaw screw of an 1816 musket to use as a wrench?
