    Buckle type

    Hi all, found this at a site that goes back to the mid 1800s. Is this a buckle that was for a horse harness?Click image for larger version.

    You're correct of course in your statement above Pop.

    But taking into consideration the geographic location of where it was found and the thickness of the casting, it's most likely to be a harness buckle.
    I've literally found a hundred of these in farm fields, I'm sure that Cru and his Dad have found thousands!

    None of my buckle finds were in the same condition as Nick's buckle though.

    Agreed, at best we can only say it’s non-descript and may not even be civil war period.
