    An old Locket?

I found this at the same 1700s homestead I've been detecting for several months. I'm not sure what it is. I placed a quarter inside of it to show the size. It is somewhat heavy and has a gold patina, but am not sure what the metal is. Each side has a small hinge. The hinges do not align though. On one side it is at about the 8:30 position. On the other side it is in the 7 position. Any help identifying this would be appreciated.

I guess they didn't notice no watch stem hole. Methinks mourning jewelry locket where the glass is long gone and the lock of hair of the deceased went along with it. Could have been a photo locket as I do see a hinge on it.

That's a good point. I've looked very closely at the sides and there is no stem hole. There are two hinges. One on each side of it.
