    Civil War Piece?

In attending to my father's estate, I ran across this item in a jewelry box. I believe it may be Civil War Era but upon searching, wasn't able to find any matching items.

It is a pin, pendant, medal or badge with "Grand Army of the Republic" at the top. The flags and the rest of the pendant are all cloth and very fragile.

The only other item in the jewelry box was the metal badge and it goes back to the Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company E. My research shows that George E. Young mustered out of this unit in September of 1864.

I think both items are from the same era but would appreciate help confirming that, or identifying it. Bet it will be quick work knowing the sleuths in this forum.

This is my first post of anything that wasn't dug out of the ground so apologies in advance........thanks and HH.

G.A.R. reunions /events were popular postwar.
Posts existed. You may find the Illinois connection to your i.d.'d piece with one.
But citizens welcomed members in thier communities when an event was held too.

Don't quote me , but some medals were from captured cannons. You'll find more by researching G.A.R..

Where they held get togethers make for good detecting sites (with permission or legal detecting allowed of course.)

Wow, those are really cool! Here is a link to the National Park Service Civil War Soldier database record on George E. Young. Been looking at find-a-grave and familysearch as well, but yet to find a match.
