Iron hook/tool from CW cavalry camp. Anyone recognize it?

Found in a wooded area where lots of CW cavalry stuff has come out of the ground. Seems like a Federal cav staging area/camp for the battle of Aldie, VA (June 1863). You may recall that's where Custer first became famous...

Some modern items dug as well - including a large 20th C wrench and tons of shotgun brass. I know some mid to late 20th C farm equipment was abandoned there (now gone).

Plenty of old growth trees in these woods so I know it was never farmed.

Thought I'd give the forum a crack at this just in case...

What say you - before it goes in the scrap bucket?

DCMatt, as often as you help ID other people's artifacts, I wish I could give you an educated guess.

Maybe that is all that's left of the camp hooker .. they wore her completely out.

Human decency is not derived from religion. It precedes it.

I wonder if it is the remains of a button hook?
