    Big St. Christopher Medal

Found this today in the front yard of a 70 yr old house. The signal bounced between .25-.50, but repeated no matter which direction I swung, so I dug it. When it popped out I thought I had a large copper coin. I soaked it in hot peroxide and gave it a scrub and was surprised to see faint traces of what looks like gold plating. It has a serial number: 33218. I searched online and found a single entry from a person who'd found one among his late grandmothers things, but he was also asking for info.

Here is another entry... LOL... another found one. It's touted as "absolutely one-of-a-kind" and it's attached to a bracelet. I think the seller attached it himself?

It's at least as old as the turn of the century when these types fobs were common... here is an article dated September 1, 1911. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstrac...6F9C946096D6CF

Hey MP, That's something you don't find every day!!! I believe it is a key fob. I think different organizations started handing them out in the 30's. If you lost your keys they could be mailed back to the main office and then to you. I think AAA still has them. Tony

Thanks for the comments. MJ thanks for the link to the article. To be honest, my first impression was that this isn't that old...maybe 50's, so the chance it could be older is pretty cool. The peroxide did a great job on it, too. Until the soak, I had no idea that it had the gold? plating.

Tony, sorry to read about your troubles with your online MD purchase. Hope it works out.
