I dug this today, however my reasearch and my books don't show this button. Please if you can help me identify I would apprecieate it. It has an eagle with shield on the front holding tallon leaves and toarch. a ribbon is in his mouth with words. and a circle of 13 stars are above the eagles head. thanks to all for your continued help and support.

Eagle Button
Its a US Army Coat Button, usually called an Eagle Button. I can not tell you when it was made except from 1900 to present. Maybe someone else will be able to give you a better date. But think about the area it was found in. Were there any WW1 or WW2 training camps or installations there at some time? That will also help with the date.

I agree. Alberts calls it the Great Seal Button which started in 1902. They all look pretty much alike after that.

thanks to both of you. It is a great seal button, I looked it up after I saw you post. The site in which it was dug has produced serveral items that pre-date the civil war going to the early 1800's. Finds to include a military payroll seal, civil war button, a mexican military button and others. I have been dececting for a little over a year so I appreciate the responses on my post.
Happy detecting!!
