Need help with this

I purchased a box of items at an auction and this was in it. It measures approx. 1 inch wide by 1 1/2 inches long. The "V" like item is attached by a chain. It has a clasp to keep it closed. Thanks for any help.

No, it has to be all in when it is closed. There is no room for anything else in the case. Thanks for looking.

No its not gold. The putty looking stuff is just padding.

very strange and unusual piece. Could u post another picture of the item on the chain placing it flat. Is it definitaly V shaped or a 7 perhaps?
