I got this in a Junk box what is it?
its made of tin I think, 3 inches tall , screw top with a needle point
the bottom is stamped made in the U.S.A with Pat`d april23,96 and Pat`d april6 97
What the confusing part for me is it being made out of metal in the year 1997
unless it contained some caustic chemical.. (some dry powder did drop out when I was taking pictures)
I couldn`t get a good picture of the bottom sorry : (
Old. That is a bicycle oiler tin. I sold one on e-Bay exactly like it. Late 1800's. If I can find my old records, I will give you the manufacturer. There would have been a painted label on the oval area in front. ... too easy. Nice find.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.
Think you may have missed the mark by 100 years...

Who? When I get a chance, I will find old pics. If u keep watching eBay they are sometimes for sale. (None at this moment however).
I am absolutely, positively sure on this ID.
Even if I didnt know what it was, patents are no longer writen with the day and the month.

Here is an Feb 18,1898 patent on the same bicycle shape in my book of oilers. Mine, that I sold, had the painted label still intact but I havent found it yet. If I do Ill post it.

His would be old because of the patent date on the bottom. The style of month, day and year is old style and the patent only stays on the invention for 10 years or so. Some collectors collect patent numbered items.

Bigcypresshunter, the "missed by 100 years" was in referance to original post from Pickinup when he thought item maybe was from 1997. Sorry about mix up. D.D.
