Here's an item I need help IDing. I found it several months ago while helping my mom expand her garden. My guess is that it's horse related, my mom thinks it may have been a heavy coat button.
Other item's found at my parent's house since Oct 1993 include a Civil War minie ball, two horse shoes, and a 1910 dated wheat cent. All had been found without a metal detector. The Xmas after I found the minie ball in the front yard my dad bought me a metal detector since I was a 12 year old kid interested in Civil War relics. No luck elsewhere in the yard, just numerous beer cans and scrap iron. The site supposedly had a pig farm at one time, and based on later trash I've dug was occupied through the mid 1980's til the land was sold in the early 90's and became part of a subdivision.
I've recently bought a Nautilus DMC IIB to take up metal detecting again, and hopefully I can find a piece of old silver or two at my parent's house, but it's a very trashy site.
Thanks for the replies! If it is a button, I've been trying to figure out if it was sewn on or if an eye passed through the two holes, and maybe the button had a face that had fallen off.
I found another one of these buttons today using my Nautilus. It was a couple of feet from where the other button was. This one was in worse condition with the middle completely deteriorated. It appears the button was filled with a rubbery substance.
By the way I found a couple of other items- 1949 wheat cent, piece of unidentified pewter or lead, and an aluminum Sunoco token with an old automobile on it.
Thanks Tony, yes those are like the token I found, but mine has a different model, hard to make it b/c of the oxidation. I found a second token in my parent's front yard back in the mid 90's. After checking eBay, I see these date to 1968.
