    Anyone have a clue?

Found this at an old (1880's) school. Found the coins with and are for size comparison. Expected older coins, but the earliest was a 34 wheat. Part of a harness? Looks like it would have had a belt through it?
    thanks, Steve

I found one very similar to it, it's a hair clip. I will try to post a picture of mine as soon as I find it.

That's the first thing I thought when I dug it,but it is fairly heavy and there was no "clip" attached to the back. As a matter of fact, there is nothing, and there are no marks where something was, attached to the back.

I think it's a sash buckle... or slide beld buckle. Victorian or maybe Edwardian.
