Need Button/Coat of Arms ID
Hello Friends!
I dug this nice gilt coat button the other day, and would love some info on it. It's gilded brass/copper, and is a little bigger than a quarter. The backmark reads: "Firmin & Sons, 153 Strand, London," which according to my sources dates the button in the mid-1800s, but no later than 1875.
Has anyone seen this coat of arms before?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Brendan

Seen similar, would have to say livery button. See what others think.
If only you could dig a super rare military looking like that!

Looks like a Livery button (late Victorian 1870s). Its probably a wealthy family but it possibly could be a generic issue

I agree with the livery button... Crest & Shield type.
Except they did make them from 1876 - 1894 NOTE: Not with the given back mark as don in SJ points out below! My bad!

Re: Need Button/Coat of Arms ID
The backmark of his button matches the early dates of 1852-1878, only when the backmark had the letters LD in it was it 1879 and later.
Tice says in 1879 the firm evolved from Firmin & Sons to Firmin & Sons, Limited.
