Okay, I'll bite. How do you know it contains iridium?

Popular late Victorian theme. Do a Google search on "VERCINGETORIX VICTORIAN", then click on Images. You'll see some other types of medallions with this guys face on them. There are some coins with his face, but not like yours.

He looks like a guy from a 1970's rock band.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Gallia is the region inhabited by the ancient Gauls, comprised of modern-day France and parts of Belgium, western Germany, and northern Italy. Between 53 BC and 50 BC Caesar was engaged in suppressing a Gallic revolt led by Vercingetorix. Eventually Caesar captured "Ver", paraded him through Rome as a trophy, then had him executed.

Iridium is the densest known terrestrial substance at 22.65 grams/cm3. That’s twice the density of lead or 8 times that of granite. A cube of iridium 6 inches on a side (15 cm) would weigh as much as an average adult human.

If the medallion is composed of gold and Iridium, it would be quite heavy. How heavy, in grams is your medallion--and what is its diameter and depth in MMs.

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY A VERCINGETORIX MEDALLION

    Crusader:
If you are saying this medallion (composed of only gold and iridium) weighs 35 grams and is 40 mm in diameter; and if we can presume it is of a thickness comparable to a US Liberty Head $20 gold piece that weighs 33.4 grams and is 33 mm in diameter (and only 90 % gold and 10 % copper), then, based on weight and diameter something seems very 'fishy' about this medallion being composed of only gold and iridium; two of the heaviest elements known.
I'm not an expert in any of this--far from it--but these given weighs and diameters just don't seem to me to measure up to this medallion being composed on only Au and Ir.

I'm only quoting what he said in the above post (although he said approx 40mm.)
