Old Pin...any date range ideas??

Found this in the yard of a 1700's house...any thoughts on it's age??

Well, there isn't much to go on there... Perhaps someone who is familiar with calligraphy could make a comment about the style of "D" on the front of it, but for me the most telling thing is the pin back. That style (where the pin hooks under a larger piece of metal) would probably rule out 20th c. origin I would think...but other than that, it could date just about anywhere in the 19th c. (My hunch is that the pin isn't 1700s...)

So my guess is Victorian--or perhaps as early as the Civil War Era.

I don't suspect it's 1700s either but a few months back I came across something (wish I could remember what it was) that had Colonial writtin all over it seeing the item from the front, but on the reverse had a similar type more modern looking attachment. Since then I have wondered if there was anything early that looked close to what's posted here.
