Whites XL Pro - Opinions Sought

I've been thinking about picking one up. I exclusively hunt relics and old coins at foundations. Important to me are the following, durability, simplicity, iron discrimination, and "fun" factor. I like the looks of that meter. Lately I'm leaning toward analog type machines. What are the pros and cons of this one? Any input would be appreciated.

I have never owned or used one,however,everything I have ever read posted anywhere has always been very positive.I know they still bring a good price for a used one and more people seem to be migrating back to analog for various reasons.I have read posts that indicate that it is a deep penetrating unit.Goodluck with whatever you decide and I hope some users can give you some good insight.

I like mine the meter is spot on well balanced. When it was dropped from the lineup there are some who thought the XLT was a replacement that was not the case, some parts ie analog meters were getting tough to have made, its a very different machine circuit/filter
wise than whats out there. I would expect it will be highly regarded for years to come. Dan

One of the best machines that I ever used (actually the earlier model 6000 pro sl) I dug a pan from some CW shoulder scales at about 20 inches. It IDs great on coins too. I still can't believe White's quit making this machine. GO for it.

Thanks for the input, I have a couple more specific questions if anyone has a second. How does the weight compare to the dfx or xlt - looks pretty similar size and balance from photos. Does it sound like the DFX or does it have a different (less computerized) sound to it? How is the swing speed and recovery time? Does Whites still repair these and have replacement parts for them, if you know?

Weight about the same. The display is a bit larger than the others, so that's where the difference would be. It's balanced well and not too heavy. It was even good when was a bigger box and operated of 4 C cell batteries. Yes, White's still has parts and when I would get one in for repairs, I used call Tony at Electronic Exploration (authorized repair for White's in Lombard IL http://www.xltdfx.com/) and also sent a description of the problem. Shipping was generally the biggest expense.

Also, it had an average swing speed. If you had an "iffy" target, you could speed the sweep up to see if it would drop out or not, which was a good indication it wasn't a good target (however, like all machines, not totally accurate, but more often than not).

Been several years since I was a dealer and they were made. I sold alot of them here in KY.

Mine was checked by whites a year ago they replaced the battery holder and one crystal. It weighs about 4.2 pounds the swing speed is about the same as the others. Dan
