6x10 DD for the M6...anyone care to review this??

I'm looking to upgrade from my standard 9.5 coil to a coil with the potential for better target separation and maybe even better depth. I do a lot of my hunting in the woods, little trash, but also hit up super trashy parks that have goodies in the depths, under a lot of trash. What do you guys think?

Yes!! I have a 6X10 DD coil on my DFX. Same coil as a M6 uses. It works
TERRIFIC. It has great depth, over 7" inches many times and has very
good target seperation. I find the best way to achieve target seperation is
to turn your coil 90 degrees and recheck target. Works very well.

I have found however, in heavy trash areas, such as in some places in parks,
I think the next smaller "DD" coil would be more effective.

But overall, I would not hesitate to buy the 6X10. It is certainly my choice
and I have had very good success with it. Should work extremely well on
a M6 and I give it a "Thumbs UP"!!

You might check with your Whites dealer. A new 9" round D2 coil is coming out. It has great target separation, not sure what the cost will be. The 6x10" is great in salt water compared to the standard coil. However with your coin hunting it may be worthwhile for you to check into.Retailis around 279.00 but deals are to be had with several Whites dealers.

The 6X10 DD will ultimately become your number one coil. It has great separation but still large enough to cover some ground. Not scientific but I believe I lose about an inch in depth with it, but well worth it in a trashy area since you pick stuff out the stock coil would never find for you. I almost always start out with it and then change to the 12" or 4X6 DD if necessary. It works great in the woods as well, with no hole to snag on ground clutter and easier to move in and around brush and trees.

I agree that the 6X10 will be your favorite coil. It has a lot going for it because it's a DD coil. Much more stable then a round concentric & is much better in highly mineralized ground

Although it might not go as deep as the 9.5", because it's a DD coil you can increase the AC Sens & Preamp Gain higher & still maintain stability. That should help even out the depth discrepancy.

There's a method of pinpointing with an elliptical coil that's different than a round coil. First get the strongest signal by moving the coil slowly side to side. Then slowly pull the coil straight back towards you until the signal just disappears. The target will be at the tip of the coil. With a little practice you'll find this to be very simple & accurate.

Some of the depth readings you'll get on shallow targets might not be accurate. It seems that you'll get 4.5" on many signals other than surface targets. Deeper than that it'll be fairly accurate.

This is my number one coil. I use it 95% of the time. It is great for any area with up to moderate trash. If an area is real trashy I switch to the 4x6 DD, but I don't have to do this very often. The 6 x10 handles mineralized ground much better than the stock coil. You can run higher senc. and still it will allow you to run smooth. If you do any beach hunting is handles the transition form wet to dry sand with no problem. The shape allows you to hunt in tight places. As far as depth goes, it's relative to the type of soil. Since you can run the sensitivity higher, basically you get the same depth in most ground that you get with the 950 stock coil. The best I have ever found was a dime at around 9 inches on the beach in dry sand. Because of its ability to separate small targets it is a very good coil for finding small gold and silver jewelery like ear studs. It is lighter weight than the stock 950 but that might not be a concern for most people.
