    MXT for nugget hunting

Any special tips for using the MXT for nugget hunting? I got mine this past spring and got the 4x6 coil to go with it. I was shown to use the relic mode with the gain all the way up to +3, and SAT set at 2. It seems to do a good job of seperating the ferrous fron the nonferrous(gold) targets that way, but I still haven't been able to get that first gold nugget. I have used it very little in prospecting mode. I'd like to hear from anyone who does any prospecting with the MXT. Thanks!

I suggest you start in Prospecting mode that is what the MXT was designed for. The sat setting will depend on soil conditions but start at the preset. That will be in your owners manual. If you don't have a manual, download one off of whiteselectronics.com. Then is all you need is to get the coil over a nugget. Good hunting.

I just tested my new MXT indoors with a test speck. Watch the probability of iron. You cannot go by the VDI but if it is 90%iron, it probably is. If it is 20%, not...it might be gold. With the trigger in the middle (search position) the iron will sound strange and other metals will sound higher toned. With trigger in forward pos. all metals will sound the same and one must go by the probability factor or dig everything that sounds off to be safe. The trick is getting the detector over a gold nugget and being lucky.
