DFX 300 Newbie Here. Which option should I choose?

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie (metal detecting) here and just took the plunge and ordered my Whites DFX 300. This will be my first ever metal detector. A long time friend of the family was always pushing me to get a metal detector (He has a Mine Lab) and has been metal detecting for over 30 years. You should see all of the stuff he has (probably worth hundreds of thousands of dollars). From everything I have read about this model, I don't think I will have a problem in learning the unit since I'm pretty mechanically inclined and pretty tech savvy.
My question here is: Apparently, I get the "White's All-American Christmas" Gift voucher, which can be used to get $320.00 worth of stuff for only $99.95. Two of the items included in this gift voucher are a Bullseye II Pinpointer and a Royal GT Headphone. The other option which I can pick are a D2 10" Double D, a Super 12 12" Spider, an Eclipse 950 9 1/2 Concentric, an Eclipse 5.3 5 1/2 Concentric, or an Eclipse Mini DD 4x6 Elliptical.
What should I get? Doesn't the DFX 300 already come with a 12" Spider Coil, which I believe is one option I can choose. Is the Royal GT Headphone a good set or should I look at something else?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated including anything else I may need to know (other than reading a lot, I already know that).

the royal gt headphones are nice but don't go all the way around the ears, they also get sweaty
I would go with the 5.3 coil it works great in trashy areas

Thanks for all the replies. Already got my book from Jeff Foster at Amazon. Now I just can't wait to get my MD.

You are going to have a ball with the DFX 300. The others gave good info on the headphones and coils. The smaller coils will come in handy more than the large ones because of the extra trash that gets under a large one.
Oakland county huh, I'm in Pontiac/Waterford area.
Good Luck,

Hi Sandman, I guess we are neighbors. Small world, eh? I guess I'm going with the Eclipse 5.3 5 1/2" Concentric Coil. Maybe I'll get the Mini later on in the future. But honestly, will there be a significant difference between the two?
Thanks for the info.

alittle more area at once than the smaller one. Not as good in heavy trash as the small one.
The Royal GT headphones are OK. Nothing wrong with them, I do however like the "ratphones" better. Just my opinions on
these subjects. The bullseye II is OK also, however I like the Detector Pro Pistol Probe much better. Will pinpoint much
deeper, but I have two bullseye's and they work fine.
I would strongly recommend that you get Jeff Foster's book, "Digging Deeper with the DFX". I think it's the bible for the DFX.
If you like to read, and you said your alittle "techie", this is the book for you to really get your arms around the DFX. Not
difficult reading and should answer 99% of your questions about the DFX and give you a good understanding of it's features
and the many options of operation.
I hope this helps and feel free to "PM" if you wish. Welcome to "T-Net".
Best of luck and I'm sure you'll like your new DFX. Keep us posted on your progress.

I agree. I like the DD 4x6, the Ratphones, and I've read the Digging Deeper book cover to cover at least 5 times.

The pinpointer and the headphones you have no choice. But I would suggest you get the 10" D2 coil. I currently have it on my DFX . I have had it for about 2 months and will not take it off yet. The target separation is the best
and you can use in in very trashy ground. With tone id on it really picks up the coins. Its big enough to hunt full time with.
