I'll tell ya, this company has some good customer service and follow up. I just ordered my DFX on Sunday the 30th and it won't be arriving until Monday, December 8th. Today, I received a little care package from WHITES. It had a manual (Understanding WHITE'S DFX) a narrative by Jimmy "Sierra" Normandi, an informational DVD, and a gift certificate.

Not bad. Now I just can't wait to get the MD.

Definitely read Jimmy's book. He gives an experienced DFXer's perspective on a range of topics.
Jeff Foster's DDwtDFX is an alpha-to-omega breakdown of all aspects of the machine, and Jimmy's down-to-earth practical stuff is a great intro to the latter book.

Despite many people's angst about the configurability of the DFX, once you get your sea legs with it, you'll probably only use a couple of your own versions of standard programs, altering a couple of settings according to the site (like reducing AC Sens and/or Gain due to EMI from power lines, say).

Since last April, I shelved my old custom program [see Programs topic on www.dfxonly], which was in Best Data mode (dual freq.); then used Mixed Mode 15 KHz for a while; then went with Mixed Mode 3 KHz. This season's 'evolution' in that direction was a way of dealing with lots of small iron (i.e. square nails, etc.) in the sites I hunted.

When you get some practice time in this spring, you WILL want to get a Sunray DX-1 probe. It attaches to the detector via a clip-mount forward of the display. The DX-1 is to handheld probes as a Saturn Aura (with the V6) is to a Model T. I gave my Bullseye II to a detecting buddy.
