m6 Any tips??

just received my m6 from an eBay sale. Very clean and in great condition, one problem, no manual. I have been using it in the yard on object Ive found in the past and so far so good. I'll be going again to watch whites video on the m6 but was looking for other users suggestions or tips for using it. Cant wait the weather here in Pittsburgh is not looking bad for the weekend.

Very easy to use. Turn on and set signal at preset mark. Turn the ground track on and bob coil up and down off the ground for a balance. Turn discrimination to what you desire.
When I balance, I lock my setting, I dont leave it on tracking,later I will balance it again. I use just enough discrimination to disc out small nails. Tones.... I hunt in single tone mode,when I find a target and want further investigation after I have looked at the screen, Ill flip into tones and sweep target again. You will find some people hunt strictly in tones.
The M6 is a fast responder which means you can sweep slow and work a target with trash close by. Of course if you are hunting nasty sites with iron,pull tabs,aluminum in abundance you will probably want a smaller coil. There are many available since the M6,MXT and DFX all use the same coils. Me, I use the 5.3 concentric coil for trashy areas. Here again, there are other smaller coils than this one and you may want one of those. If you have highly mineralized soil you may need one of the smaller DD coils which handles the mineralized soils better. I hunt in pretty mild soils so the concentric coils do well for me.
Also ,even tho you can sweep the coil slow, the M6 isnt sweep speed sensitive, which means you can sweep a bit faster or slower.
My M6 is my backup machine, and its so easy to use, I keep it for friends or family.
Want to have some fun, find some tot lots in your area that havent been hit and hunt them using the tones mode. Though!!! It can be used for much more than that.

I run mine on 0 desc with tones and as high of senc that I can and still keep it running smooth. I usually don't lock the tracking except if I am working a faint single, then I lock the tracking. If you don't lock the tracking on faint singles the tracking system will cancell out the single after a few passes.

I agree with littletwig and gator01.. The coils I use 90% of the time are the Super 12 and the 5.3..
I hold mine coil waist high, autotrac on, trigger in the middle position (one tone), 0 discrimination.. Next I crank the on/sensitivity knob wide open and then slowly back down till it gets fairly quiet (I like a crackle now and then..) Then find a spot to ground balance that free of ALL metal (THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP!!) and bob the coil a few times.... I then like to lock the tracking (middle position) then switch to seven tones (trigger forward).. And off I go.. It will sound like a gaggle of geese but soon you will, after looking at the VDI for a time, recognise the tones and discriminate out the tones you don't want and only look at the VDI when you hear the tones you want to dig (so you're not constantly looking down at the screen)... If you run discrimination at all by watching the vdi you can adjust it to sound off on VDI 0 and above.. Also if your out for it all dig everything 0 and above!! One tip I have to pass on, is when I'm getting a lot of deep iron signals, instead of using the discrimination, I turn down the sensitivity till I lose the deeper iron signals...
