    MXT Relic hunting

I only hunt CW relics and usually in mix mode with the trigger in the center. when you set the trigger forward in DIC mode where do you suggest setting the DIC and do you use silent mode to cut out some of the chatter when it trys to cut out everything below DIC.

    Thanks

    Re: MXT Relic hunting

It has been a while since I used the MXT, so this is from the field test report.
In the relic mode, the forward trigger position activates the “Disc Suppress Rejects” software. Targets below the Disc setting will not produce any audio signal. If the Disc control is set to ‘0’, all targets under the coil will produce an audio signal with ferrous targets producing a lower pitched tone than non-ferrous targets. This is useful when trying to locate a camp or skirmish site and the presence of ferrous targets may be the first indication relic hunters will receive when they are getting close.

Hope this helps. Maybe others with more experience with the MXT will pitch in with help.

    Re: MXT Relic hunting

Hi Hutch...in the relic mode with the trigger forward you've got two choices. Regular discrimination or if you elect to hunt in zero discrimination you get a low iron tone, and a higher tone for everything above iron. I'd imagine you would at least want to be aware of the iron, so maybe you might want to try zero disc...hear the iron and other goodies...while getting the best depth too.

On the other question, I prefer to have a faint background threshold for best overall results. Hope this helps a bit...Jim.
Time, oh good sweet time...where did you go?

    Re: MXT Relic hunting

The beauty of the MXT is it's fast recovery speed. This means that if you have a piece of brass nest to a piece of iron with the trigger switch in the middle position and both are of the same size, you will hear the higher pitch of the brass over the low of the iron. If they are close, you will hear both the low and then the high sounds as the recovery rate is better than on most other detectors. This is one of the reasons why the MXT is a great detector for relic hunting. I saw this demonstrated on youtube against minelabs, etc.....
