    question about xlt

I went out for the first time with the xlt. I'm also new to owning my own md. i went to ground balance everything was good. But I have question about the constant hmmmmmmmm noise is that normal? I just kept it in the factory pre set programs. Thanks Jim

    Re: question about xlt

Check the connections, Turn off, Turn back on, is it just one area? I have been told if you carry a cell phone it could interfere also.

    Re: question about xlt

I do not know if the XLT has a threshold mode or not. Click on the Whites logo at the top of the screen and click on FORUM. Ask the question there. Plenty of XLT users there.

    Re: question about xlt

The background "hum" you are hearing is most likely the "Audio Threshold". . . which is normal.

If you're working with one of the "preset" programs, lets say "coins" as an example, there are certain VDI values
(types of metal) that will be "discriminated out" (ignored). When this occurs as your coil passes over a target, such
as an iron nail, the background "hum" will go silent. This lets you know that your detector has "recognized" a metallic
target (iron nail) but it doesn't "fit" in the VDI range that your preset program (coins) has been established to accept.

This is really a good feature because when you start hearing moments of threshold silence (no hum) it lets you know
there are metallic targets. . . usually man-made. . . so there should be some interesting things to dig. Hope this helps!

Take care & welcome to TNet!

    Re: question about xlt

    watercolor is Correct.

unless you are in all metal

If the Hum goes Silent it is most likely Iron or Iron ore in the ground.

If you get a Sharp tone it is most likely Not Iron.

The slight Hum is normal. If Loud you need to turn it back a little.

if you go to silent search you won't hear the tone loss on iron

    Re: question about xlt

jeff is right on the money. i have a xlt and thats how i hunt. you can go to silent search but i never used that when i learned . i like the background hum. when you use that you can hear any interuption while detecting . so this is normal on the xlt . whitespa.
