looking at buying a White's MD

I am new to MDing. I have done plenty of research and figure this is the next step for me to actually search out some of these sites. I have found a used (new in box with manual) classic I.D.X for $150 is this a good deal? The one I was considering buying before this came along was a Garrett 250. Would this be easy to use for a newbie?

    Thanks for any input!

Welcome to the forum. The detector is easy to operate and would do a fine job. Many hunters really like the Ace 250 because of all the glowing reports. Both are fine detectors, you just have to put in your time and learn your machine.

150 is cheap for a working IDX. The Ace 250 is a great machine also. The biggest difference is that the Ace 250 is a notch machine and the IDX is a progressive discrimination machine. The IDX weighs about 4 pounds and the 250 is under 3. Try and find a dealer that has them both and try them. If you buy either one and resell them you'll get your money back as they both hold their value.

Get the IDX. The learning curve will be a bit steeper but well worth the speed and versatility.

I've owned both and for me they are both very easy to work.

choose the one that works for you, but 150 for a used IDX is still a good buy
