Question about the 9.5 coil on my IDX

I have been using my blue max 5.3 on my idx and I want to switch back to 9.5. I remember I did not like the way it performed for me when I first got the idx. Does this coil go deep? My 5.3 is normally around 5" the deepest. I am using the 9.5 2morrow. Input on this would help. Also is there a coil out there that is around 9.5 size that you prefer and recommend?

Re: Question about the 9.5 coil on my IDX

The 9.5 is deeper than the smaller coil however if you had trouble with it in a trashy area the first times you used it, it picked up more targets under the coil at one time. There is no getting around this. If you use to much disc, you can mask out the good targets. Check the Whites website to learn about which coils are available for your detector.

Re: Question about the 9.5 coil on my IDX

Pokerdad, I presently use an XL Pro with the 9.5 coil with very good results. Last friday I went to a local park and got the usual trash and common coins, then I got a whisper of a sound. Checked by criss-crossing and it was pretty consistant. Pinpointed and got a depth of 7 to 8 inches down. Dug out a 4 inch clod of dirt and re-scanned with the 9.5 coil and the target was still in the ground, went down to 8 inches and got a '46 wheatie. 3 to 4 feet over, I got another weak signal at about the same depth and this one was a '55 wheatie. So I have to say that the 9.5 coil is excellent even if there is thrash. The 5.3 coil is really good in hunting and the separation of good targets thru trash. Yes, my 9.5 coil gets em deeper.

    Good Luck and HH,
