I found my first Metal Detector, not the one I wanted but I aint complaining...

Not sure if this goes here but I am stoked, so a few days ago I posted on craigslist in the barter section that I wanted a metal detector and listed some things I had, well this morning someone texted my phone saying he had one, I asked what kind etc he said a Whites GMT I looked it up and was happy.... I live in Oregon so if there is any problems I can take it to Sweet Home and they fix it free, anyhow I checked it out and it seems to work perfectly! I just dont know how to use it as there was no manual and I really wanted a beginners one like the ace or fisher f2 but I aint complaining! I am just hoping now I can sell it for around $500 so I can pay some bills (shut off notices) and get my F2.... All in all I just had to share as some might know I have been on here for a while with no detector but at least I finally got one! Now off to my backyard!

A unused tattoo kit I paid $100 for last year off ebay? I am now informed its a GOLD detector, but I called whites and the nice lady told me that it can detect any metal.. Did I make a bad decision?

that's cool, now get out there and start making some finds, into some event or concert fields, fairgrounds, ballparks, beaches, etc., give it a few weeks of swinging and i think you'll be pleasantly supprised at the qty. of your finds, it wouldn't take too long to make back that $100. especially if you have some good sites and not many other MD'ers in your area

i reminded me of when i got one thru www.freecycle.com or something similar to that ( i can't remember the name of the other website or group i used to go to)

Took it in my backyard with my 6 year old son he has a national geographic kids one for a half hour or so finally..

    Found:

2 crushed popcans (good thing I got them before he stepped on them someday, about 2 inches deep)
    Some weird magnet
and he found a dime that was placed by me
So total value of junk: 0$

total value of time spent with son and his smile when he found the dime: PRICELESS~

Thanks Im still on the fence being its my FIRST ever metal detector.. should I sell it for $400-500 and downgrade and pay some bills or keep it and count my blessings as I would never ever be able to afford this type of detector again... decisions.. decisions... any input?

Very nice trade. I saw that someone posted the manual. White's also has instructional videos at http://whiteselectronics.com/videos/...struction.html .

i'd say keep it. and "use it often", as they do no good sitting in the closet. your kid will love it when you go also, he can be your little digger ( in areas that dont require replacing the grass plug ), and he will also enjoy it when your searching around playgrounds, and various schools.

Yes it's a gold machine, but theres gold in Oregon to I hear.
It should find any metall it passes over; should be great to use at the beach where one could miss some very small gold jewelry and foil!

My view on it; keep it or try to put up a trade. Depends on what kind of machine you want.
