Just got a Whites GMT in trade for a tattoo kit valued at $100... good deal?

People tell me its a great deal, my only concern is this is my FIRST detector ever, seriously... So I wonder if I should sell it for 4-500$ and get a Fisher F2 begginer or Ace and have some $ to pay bills or should I count my blessings and keep this GMT especially since I live in Oregon and the factory will fix any problems for life... suggestions? comments? Please..

its yours to do with whatever makes you happy --- need cash sell it ---pocket some cash for bills and get lesser machine with some of it ---if needing money is not a issue --keep it . --pretty straight forward really. --- very nice trade provided she works properly .---it mainly designed as a gold propecting machine and runs at a high 48 freq.--but can find other stuff as well.

My only issue is yes I need $$ but I seriously will never be able to afford this machine in my life and it was a trade and she does work beautifully, also I am not much of a gold prospector (not that I wouldnt mind finding any) and I really want to find clad, rings, silver etc.. its like I get half people telling me to sell the other half tell me I would be crazy too... I did play with it a lil bit with my son in our small backyard today, just found 2 crushed cans and a magnet but his smile was priceless~!

if you need the cash for household bills or to put food on the table --then you've answered your own question -- if you need a bit of "extra" cash but would still have a bit left over to get a lesser one then its your call --sell and get a lesser one with some cash for the household still --or hold the excess cash for hard times ? --only you know your true fiscal position -- so think wizely -- metal detectors are for "hobby time" fun --if your hurting for cash very badly to meet household type bills -- then there is "no" free hobby time --its time to knuckle down and earn some cold hard cash by working to get things back on track again. -- just my free advice -- and its worth every penny you paid for it .

I try to tell it like it is this is a fun "hobby" -- but family needs must come first.

Unless you want to hunt nuggets exclusively, trade it for a detector that is more versitle, . IMO a GMT is not a good detector for a beginner to use for coin hunting. Whites have a two year warrenty

Agree! If you are not a nugget shooter, sell and get a coin machine and use the extra money where you need to.IMO

If I lived in Oregon and had a GMT and needed extra money........I would be out finding some gold with it.!
Now put that baby to work and go out and find some gold!

If you cant find any, then sell it and get some bills paid.
The GMT is specifically designed for gold prospecting if that doesn't suit you then you didn't need it anyway.

If you are interested in finding nuggets this detector will do it. But something more like a MXT is more versatile for coins and relics too. The MXT is not a really good nugget finder unless they have some size to them, but it is a lot easier to use. The fun is in the use anyway. Skill will come soon enough with practice with your son. If you need to sell it for cash, that is OK too as you can get a entry unit like Ivan suggested. Having a nice big SUV in the driveway would be nice but not if you can't afford to put gas in it.

    Good Luck,
