UPDATE: White's Forum/What the Heck is Going ON ?
Posted Today at 05:04:45 AM Quote
UPDATE! Here's the Story!
Howdy Folks!
I've just gotten word back from Ray (Channelmaniac) and Fox (Deolslyfox)
regarding the White's forum. Here is what I've learned:
From Fox:
All is well. The forum is just moving (to different servers) and will take on a new look at the same time.
You'll have to get a new password when it comes back up, but you'll still be able to keep your handle.
All existing posts will remain intact ....
The new forum should be up around Monday, with any luck.
From Ray:
White's is moving the forum to one of their servers.
Per Whites: No changes to mod staff but there will be some changes to the forum. They are moving posts and other info over. Not sure if they'll get 99.9% of everything but they are working hard to do that.
I do know that one thing that won't migrate over is the user password database as they use different encryption methods. What this means is you'll receive an email when the forums are back up telling you to reset your password.
So, them's the berries folks! Now we know something more about what's happening!
Blessings,
M-Taliesin
Thanks for the info Mel,digit

Re: White's only forum information here
Hey everyone!!! I been hunting all day and found 98 coins(5.25 was Quarters, 2.10 were dimes, rest nickels and pennies)so far this evening as of 5:30 eastern time.
I also found a steal gold/diamond looking earing(large, and a lil rusty), I also found a 926 green stone turtle with what could only be described as a webbing for his shell/hold the green stone in.
I'll get pics as soon as I can. I still haven't bought a camera yet.
Ohh I used my Classic 5 ID and shooter coil
Own White's Classic 5 ID and White's Coinmaster(new model)
White's DFX w/950, 5.3, DD1400,6x10,4x6,10"DD, and soon the 12 inch.
I hunt mostly with the 6x10.

Howdy Sandie!
When you get back, the White's forum should be back up and running on a new server.
That, it is hoped, will happen by Monday. Regardless, we're here for ya. Have a terrific
trip kiddo!

Howdy Dimeman!
From what I learned today, everything should transfer to the new server without
any material loss of data. It should have everything it did before, when last we
all looked. The only thing is it will have a new look. Can't wait to see it.

Re: White's only forum information here
Howdy Folks!
Went hunting today and got 109 coins and some nice jewelry items. Didn't spend much
time hunting, as I helped a guy with a green machine to learn how to have better luck
with his machine. His previous best hunt was like 5 pennies in 2 and a half hours. Within
just a couple of minutes with my help, he recovered 5 quarters and a few pennies and
nickels, and was astounded how a few simple adjustments made a huge difference in
his ability to nail down targets! He was pretty happy about that.
Anyhow, I'll post more on this when the White's forum returns, hopefully on Monday,
and I have photos to share along with stories to tell of recent exploits. Believe I have
two silver items, but neither are marked.
Oh, and among the coins I found was a Mexican $200 peso coin that is dated 1985.
On one side, it says "75 Aniversario de la Revolucion Mexicana". Never seen one quite
like this one before, and wonder if it might prove to be a keeper.
Anyhow, the word from Carl is that we can expect some pretty exciting new changes
when the forum returns on Monday (hopefully). It will be coming soon!
Blessings,
M-Taliesin

Re: White's only forum information here
Depending on the software they are migrating to, there's a very strong chance that passwords won't have to be reset, but I wouldn't be able to say unless I talk to somebody in charge. I do this stuff every day. MD5 and salts can easily be transfered from one site to the other if the old site owner is willing to give access to the database and the new owner wants to provide a seamless transition to the users.
Anybody who says "it can't be done" will usually be interrupted by somebody who's already doing it.
