Countdown to Launch! The New White's Forum!

    Howdy Folks!
Since we all know what's going on with the White's forum, and the previous thread
is getting pretty darn long, I figured a new thread might be nice so we can all hang
out here and count down the time until the new website is launched. Actually, the
website will be the data we left behind when the site went dark, but with a new
forum engine and all our old posts migrated over.

So, here is a new thread to discuss our eagerness to see the new site open and
our forum to reappear so we can resume our spirit of community. Until then, we
can keep a vigil here. General discussion welcome.

    Blessings,

Your account won't be lost, but it appears that the way they've chosen to handle the transition will certainly ensure that your password will be lost. Just attempt to log in as normal, and when you get the bad password screen, look for the forgotten password link which will be the word "here". This link will reset your password and email you with the information, but you have to still have access to the email account that you originally registered with in order to get the notification. Otherwise, you'll need to re-register with a new account, and have your new user PM staff and ask that your old account be reset in order to access it.

Hope we can get everyone back, as there are some that were not registered on Treasure Net, but only on Whites Forum.

Will T-Net( as the old web address) email the Whites Forum members and let them know of the new web address?

    Howdy Robbie!
So far as I know, the answer would be YES. They can easily send out a broadcast email to everybody that was a member of the old forum to let them know it is up again. I assume they will do that. However, I still believe that those of us who have exchanged email with other users might help out by letting them know what's going on.

The clock is ticking away the minutes, and before we go to bed tonight, we'll be back in our own room again!

Yeah, hoping they get it up and going soon. My V3 should be getting back from Sweet Home with an extra little "i" installed. That forum is my lifeline. Man I hope were able to keep our bookmarks, I'm gonna need to have Fox's, Roberts and Cybersages programs ready to go when it arrives.

Re: Countdown to Launch! The New White's Forum!

You had to do it didn't you Jake? You just had to put vB 4.0.3 on your new site. Get ready for at least a month's worth of technical support headaches. My first migration to 4 took me two months to get it straightened out, but I'm giving you credit for being twice as smart as me. On your one user who's complaining that he can't view attachments, did you use impex to import the data from SMF straight into 4, or did you import into 3.8.5 and then upgrade to 4.0.3? If you went straight into 4 you might as well just shut it down and start over because half of your attachments are going to be fubared. Are your attachments being stored in the database or in the file system? If in the database, oh boy... more fun. Get ready for memory overflows and "mysql has gone away" left and right. It took me two weeks of dry runs every night to get my first fully reliable import that would allow the board to be stable, and that was reinstalling back to 3.8, performing the import, and then upgrading to 4.0. Then the REAL problems began once the users started coming in.

I hope you have an account at vbulletin's forum, and have the time to follow it religiously, because you're gonna need it. Too bad the search function doesn't work worth a crud. If you value your users sanity, you'll just go ahead and install sphinx and be done with it. Unfortunately vBulletin hasn't done that, so you sort of have to just wander around looking for answers.

I've already ran into every issue that you WILL run into over the next month or so... several times. vB4 is not ready for prime time, and it takes some severe tweaking to get it to work right out of the box.

    Howdy Blacksheep!
Thank you for your well wishes. I'm certain there will be problems because most of our folks
just ain't used to a different forum engine and have gotten real comfortable with SMF. Guess
we will work through those issues together.

    Thank you again. Much obliged.

    Howdy Folks!
As the new forum is now up and running, we can close this thread while leaving
another one or two running over here. We seem to have things progressing well
enough that we don't want to leave a bunch of threads open so we'll lock this
    one.

To everyone who took part, huddled together to keep vigil until our forum
returned to the web, thank you all.
