Re: Anyone have any MXT programs

I would find that a hard answer, as it would depend what your looking for and how you would want to hunt. The trigger forward in both relic and coin mode give you an option of your own preference pending on the area being hunted. The sensitivity should be up as high as you can stand it. I try to run +2 or +3, but there are times I cannot get it past the erratic set do to the ground. If you do not need the depth like in tot lots or coin shooting for modern clad, preset or below is fine.

The disc should be set as low as you can stand it, as for relics they come in all over and some iron targets are good. As far as coin and jewlery, again you need the disc as low as possable as a womans gold ring can come in the foil range. But some areas have so much foil or pull tabs you may not want to have it so low. It's personal preference.

    1. Set to ground
    2. Threshold to just where you hear the hum.
    3. Gain as high as it can without falsing to much.
    4. Dual control as low as you can stand it and area allows.
    5. trigger forward=personal preference as areas can dictate.

Learning the sounds and nubers of different targets will help alot.

Re: Anyone have any MXT programs

I didn't write this but I agree with it and it's easier to copy and paste. This is good advice!

The "alternate" (switch forward) function in Coin & Jewelry mode is completely different from the "alternate" function in relic mode.

In C&J mode, the switch forward serves as a "notch" that eliminates many of the VDI numbers (+28 to +49), and the user will indeed miss opportunities to dig gold targets that reside along with the dreaded pull tabs. (Personally, I would never hunt the MXT in "Alternate C&J" mode for the very reason you described above.)

However, the "alternate" switch position in Relic Mode serves a completely different function. Simply stated, Relic Mode has no "notch". The setting of the Dual Control knob determines the audio response. Set it on "3" and you will always get a response to any VDI above zero, regardless of the position of the trigger. The function of the trigger in relic mode is basically designed to change the speed of the Self-Adjusting-Threshold (S.A.T.).

The ground where I hunt (California, Nevada & Arizona) is very minerialized and can literally change under your coil from one side of the swing to the other. Since I prefer hunting the MXT "on the edge of insanity" and depend on the threshold for "whispers", it is important to me that the S.A.T functions fast (Alternate Relic mode) to stabilize the "insanity" that is going on in my headset.

(I should note here that a slow swing speed in normal Relic mode will produce similar results. However, there is another advantage to the "alternate" mode that I particularly like...described below.)

In Primary Relic mode (switch in middle position), VDI's above the level determined by the Dual Control knob give off a high-pitched sound and those below give off a low-pitched sound.

In Alternate Relic mode (switch forward), all VDI's below the Dual Control set point are silent. VDI's at, or above, the Dual Control set point are broken down...high pitch for non-ferrous targets and low pitch for ferrous targets.

Since there are a lot of things going on when hunting "on the edge of insanity", I like the additional "organization" of the low/high sounds that the alternate position provides.

The MXT is great for the beach as well as the woods. I wish I lived near some placer gold to put the mxt through its paces in prospecting mode. You guys out west and down south must love nugget shooting with your MD's.

Well for starters, the XLT is a programmable machine, the MXT ain't.
The MXT will give you three basic hunting modes:
Coin and Jewelry, Relic and Prospecting.
Settings are whatever works in your environment and based on what you hope to find.
If you want to find gold jewelry, you want that discrimination set down between 2 and 3.
I run my RX Gain at 9, sometimes higher.

Since I am now running the MXT Pro, the trigger forward position locks the pinpointer as "On",
rather than provideing the alternative mode of the standard MXT.

    Best of Luck pard!

Re: Anyone have any MXT programs

    Howdy,
I'm new to my MXT,, one year and learnin.
For the Best Information availiable, My two cents would be,
    The book "The Mxt EDGE"
Its been tested and tryed with all types of coils in all types of conditions, in all modes and settings,
    for all types of objects.
Doesnt get much better than that, for information on the Mxt's capabilities.
For me, i am still rereading the book, sometimes I feel overwhelmed.
But I am gradually figuring it out
Also , there is another forum availiable, that is strictly MXT users, and its a pretty active forum.
Its at (findmall.com) just scroll through to the Mxt users forum.
I wish I was as smart as my machine is capable. But at least theres always room for growth, and I'll never get bored. lol
    good luck to ya,
And WINTER IS ON ITS WAY,
we better get to diggin while the diggin is good

When you say "trigger forward" do you mean the pinpointing trigger?

I sure get a kick out of all the answers you got............... You wanted to know if the MXT was programmable and only one person answered you question ....................... that was.. M-Taliesin .. and he told you the truth the MXT is not programmable ................... Every one shot all around you question but did not give you a answer to it ................. I think they should have said no it can not be programmed ............. But they did tell you of some books to read that has good info in them..

On older models of MXT, you could put the trigger forward to engage an alternate mode.
This is not 'programming' but merely utilizing an option available on those MXT's.

On the new MXT Pro, the trigger forward position will lock pinpoint mode on, so you can use a DX-1, for example, without having to hold the trigger while pinpointing. All the trigger forward did for older MXT machines was to eliminate bottle caps and pull tabs.
I believe it also was highly successful at eliminating some real good targets as well.
