    Need Info on old Whites

I just came across a Whites CoinMaster Model CM-4 Serial No 24867 date make p3
It is new in the hardshell case it came in. Can anyone tell me about the unit and if it
is as good as the newer units? Does it have any value?

This is an oldie. I don't know how you could put a value on it except as a collector piece. It won't compare with any of today's detectors and most newbies know this. Would you buy a round tube B/W TV? At least the TV will just sit there and the detector you have to carry. It does look in excellent condition.

Re: Need Info on old Whites

The CM-4 is an older TR Metal/Mineral Discriminator.
It won't match todays detectors but it is still as capable now as it was back in 1974 of finding coins, gold and relics and a lot of people found a lot of stuff with this machine.

In the Metal mode it will respond to all metals that do not contain iron; in the Mineral mode it will sound of on magnetic minerals such as black sand and steel. This mode can be used to locate black sand deposits that usually lead to or contain gold. The Disc mode is used when you want to select the type of metals that the unit will respond to.

    Detecting ability:
Best suited to coin hunting in lightly mineralised ground.
Works good in freshwater (not waterproof).
OK for treasure (large) hunting, prospecting and Relics.
Works OK over salt water and saltwater sand ( Expect approx 4 inches depth in these areas)
Should detect a quarter at 7 inches in air and fresh water. but only approx 3 inches in heavy mineralised ground.

TR detectors need to be scaned at a constant height above the ground if the ground is iron mineralised.
In neutral ground around some freshwater lakes for eg the TR works quite well. Put the machine to work and learn how to use it properly and there will be no reason why you cannot find plenty of targets.

    Adrian SS,
Hi there, like all others have told you that is and OLD unit. If it were dirt cheap say $20 you could but it and try. If they want more as over $50 I'd check out a Whites 6000D coinmaster that was IN GOOD CONDITION and buy it. I had/have a 6000D and I pulled a lot of silver out of the ground as well as my first gold ring and some silver rings and a gold crown and ....... it's a good machine and USES double A batteries. You can get a hip mount for it or you might even find a 6000D hipmount unit on ebay or some other site as whites made the hip/chest mount units. And the 6000D manual is still available on the whites manual section of their web site.

    Good Luck, 63bkpkr
