V3i or Mxt pro?

Looking to upgrade detectors. I have a 705 Minelab and I am looking to replace it. How hard is the V3i to learn? I had a Minelab SE before the 705 and never did feel I got the hang of it. Looked at the MXT pro, looks alittle easier. I know it takes time with any detector to learn. Just trying to make a good pick. Is the V that much better? Thanks for any help! One more thing, I like to coin and relic hunt.

I do not own a V3i and have only checked one out and spoke to people that own them. I do have an MXT which is very easy to operate and a very capable detector. I do believe that if someone is willing to take the time with the V3, they will have a much better detector due to it's 3 frequencies and available tweeking capabilities. But if you like simplicity without the electronic learning curve, the MXT is an excellent detector that has many capabilities with a much shorter learning curve. Good luck

The MXT has great depth even up against the V3i, the V3i does have some nice features to help with EMI and the ability to except or reject certain VDI's. You have a screen on the MXT so you can just look to see if its a VDI you want to dig or not. I think the MXT is a better buy with as much depth as the V3i and uses all the same coils so if later you feel you have to have a V3i all your coils will work on it, just make sure when buying coils for the MXT you get the V rated coils.

I also have to go with the MXT detector being the simplier one to operate. I played with the V3 for a month steady and couldn't wrap my brain around it as it wasn't a fun detector for me. The MXT is real easy to understand as is the DFX. I didn't think the V3 was deeper but I was only in the presets mostly.

The SE is comparable in complexity of use to The White's DFX. The V3i is somewhere between the SE and the XTerra 705 in complexity. From what I understand from your post, you would be happiest by far with the White's MXT Pro.

I have owned a mxt it only runs in 13.5khz middle of the road. I also have the v3i
It sure takes a wile to learn it. Not over night. It can be a real pain to learn, but if you stick it out you will never want another detector again. I also have the minelab etrac and the v3i seems to find a few more items. a little deeper. I like that I can change my v around with daily ground conditions.

Like any new/high tech detector, there's going to be a learning curve, the V3 is no exception. If you are computer literate, then you can manage the V3 which is Windows based designed. I've had mine since 7/09 and still there is much to learn.

To start, download the manuals from Whites and/or go to your nearest dealer to test one out. That's the only way to get a feel for the detector. Out of the box, it's one HOT machine!

Thanks for all the info! I went to my Whites dealer and looked at the V3i. He made me a deal and it came home with me. Looking forward to learning this machine.

V rated coils Please explain. Haven't heard that term before.

You can use any E-series coils but the V-rated coils have been nulled to specs for the V3i so you will be able to run the V-rated coils hotter on the V3i then the regular non V-rated coils. I think all the new ones made are V-rated coils some dealers might have some old stock non V-rated coils still around though which will still work you just won't be able to run them as hot as the V-rated coils on the V3i. The tab where the rod mounts to the coil is where you will find the V stamped for a V rated coil and I believe some V-rated coils were marked with something else for awhile till they corrected that, but most have a V stamp on the tabs.
