It still floats. But it doesn't take much to keep it down. I personally don't think it's a problem.

The only problem for me on the BHID was keeping the all metal toggle switch in position. It would jump back to the center disc mode all by itself due to the stiff waterproof boot. The coil is a non issue. Great machine. I found that keeping the head on the shaft was the best. Plus you can see the lights better too.

I had same problem with waterproof boot - just slide it back toward the box - it's real stiff and eventually will soften up and problem will not reoccur. I sorta like the coil - easier to push than pull to keep coil flat/low - plus you can let the rod go if you need to and it'll be right there next to you versus sinking to bottom and sounding on your scoop. I really like the bh300 - goes as deep as I wanna dig - mainly don't have to dig so many iron targets anymore. gl and hh whatever you decide!

Keppy, I am in the water all the time and I didn't like the floating coil, but I am picky. It does have advantages for the coil to want to float as when you dig a target the coil floats off the bottom and doesn't beep on a new target. The coil floats more in salt water too. Plus if you decide to hunt the dry sand the coils less weight is nice. Many will place a sand filled sock on the shaft while water hunting as the 300's coil is foam filled and floats more that the smaller orginal BHID's. I liked the operation of the BHID 300 and carried my controls in the bag hanging from my neck which made the coil float even more.. I never had trouble with the newer ones leaking with the newer O ring or any rubber boot problems. I just couldn't get over the floating coil when none of the other water detector's coils floated and really were neutral buoyant.

Sandman , ... I am upset with Garrett & the AT Pro that i had to send it in ...............It did not work right out of the box...................... And of course Minelab has a big problem with detectors not working out of the box................... And then Minelab & Fisher has lousy service........... So that leaves me with Whites or Tesoro......... And people have had a lot of good finds with Whites & Tesoro........... Just like all the brands a lot of good finds............... I am just getting to old to have to send detectors in for repairs all the time................. I don't need to put my money out get a new detector ............... Then have to mess with it send it in .............. I don't need to pay for problems ...... At my age i buy a detector i want it to be problem free............ And they should be............... Quit selling crap........... But as long a buyers keep makeing excuses for the crap ....................... And keep buying the faulty detectors .............they will keep makeing the crap............. The american way to handle this is don't buy there crap..............

    Amen Keppy........
I was extremely disappointed in Garrett's AT PRO being shipped as a faulty detector and everyone had to send it back at our expense and then worry if UPS would deliver it to the wrong house. Seems all the companies are producing crap now and not owning up to it. Seems Tesoro is the only one without worries once they started producing the water detectors again hard wired instead of having the connector for the coils. Once a coil is on a water detectors, I don't need to change it. My Tiger Shark however has the connector so I can use larger or standard coils. I just installed the 10" one again. But now you have to decide when you buy one which size coil you want. I'd like to find a 3"X18" Clean Sweep Coil for the Tiger again.
