V3i Question ? How do you eat an elephant ? ...

With about a dozen hunts under my belt. I will let you in on a secret that a man told me when I first bought a White's prism II some 8 years ago. Anyone that has read my post might be familiar with this clue to success. He told me for the first 1000 hrs dig everything. Dig everything ? Everything! even if you know it is junk dig it . Now over 8 years of detecting I have learned much of what I know about detecting by this sound encouragement.
As for the whites V3i, for each program you use, learn it by using it and Read the Manual every night . Learn the manual back to front . IMHO if you have owned this machine over a year and you are wanting to write your own programs, I think you are missing out on what is already done for you . However that being said, play with this tech wonder get lost in it and take field notes . Tweek it and see what it has to offer .
I have had more mutiple coin digs than ever before . And I also found brass shells at 9 inches. To sensetive? Maybe
My mother has a new phone, and I can't figure out why. She does not even know how to answer the dam thing . Point being That If you are going to be successful at anything you must know alot about a little . However as title of this string sugest this V3i is an elephant . In a great way I mean these words . Faster deeper recoveries are my observations so far. Remeber the sound , remember the vdi ., Remember something about each hunt and take field notes, keep a journal . In the short time I have owned this machine , This much is true . I do not think I will ever buy another land detector . I will get deeper than I ever have in the past . My attitude must be to learn something each time I go out .
So my secrets ( that I will share )are as follows :
    1) Dig it all for the first 1000 hrs . that goes for any detector
    2) Read post , manuals , detector sites dedicated to your brand .
3 ) Learn from others you hunt with .
    4) Think outside the box
Now to answer the riddle of : How do you eat an elephant ? ONE BITE AT A TIME happy hunting all Rob

Re: V3i Question ? How do you eat an elephant ? ...

I have owned a V3i for nearly two years, and have not written one program, and if you look at the hundreds of finds in my photo galleries on my site, I think you will agree that I do just fine . I have modified a Relic program by changing the filters, sensitivities and other minor adjustments, but when all is said and done, the stock programs are enough.

    Good advice!
