questions about the use of a 6000di PRO

I have an old 6000 di PRO from the mid 80's I have not used for years. Suddenly got the bug and have been hitting this area hard using the machine in GEB disc mode. Found lot of clad, 10 wheeties and 2 indians ranging in age from 1883 to 1957. There is alot of junk because the destroyed the buildings on the lot about 2 months ago. Should I hit the lot using the TR disc mode? Would this gain any more depth. There has to be silver there. Also should I spend the money and buy a new detector? I was thinking about the MXT pro but they are pretty steep in price. Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks Chris. I have been out of the hobby so long. I am just waiting for my detector to show up on Antique Roadshow.

The TR mode will only give better depth if there is not much mineralisation, otherwise use the All metal GB mode for the extra depth and crank the meter TID sensitivity up as far as you can and still have a steady readout. Use a 4 or 6 inch coil to thread your way through the trash.

You really do need a smaller coil and though TR mode isn't happy if there's much mineralisation its got the advantage over the GEB discrim. mode that its non motion. The GEB discrimination mode doesn't have a very fast recovery speed to say the least and the concentric coils used don't help one bit.

If you can put up with it I would use the all metal GB mode as Adrian suggests and use audio response to I.D. iron and just put up with digging all the alloy/foil and other scrap. Every single bit of metallic rubbish will be masking out deeper good finds but thats metal detectors for you !

Mine pulls deep silver in GEB disc. When you pinpoint, it switches to tr/nonmotion mode. Still love using the thing, it just tires out my arms fast...that's why I got the vision...much lighter.

But I KNOW my 6000Di Pro...will never get rid of it!

You'll get a few more tools with a newer, more advanced model, but the depth really doesn't change.

I have a 5" and a 10" coil for my DiPro. Don't know if you'll find one...maybe one of White's new coils would work on it...mine are from back in the day...lol

I run my disc just over foil and have my sensitivity up to where it's almost unstable. That'll get me a dime at 8".

Very biased towards that machine...made me lots of finds, some good deep finds...takes a licking and keeps on detecting. If you can live without the fancy stuff, stick with it.

    I think...therefore I am.
