? for xlt users

Been playing around with the xlt ground is still frozen here though so no digging. But I have a question? With my pre amp on 3 and ac sens. on 70 that seems to be the max at which I can run it without falsing, am I going to be able to get the depth I want? Im use to the garrett 2500 and I could run that on 11 out of 12 for sensitivity. Just seems like I'm not going to be able to get much depth out of the xlt with these settings this low. But I don't know as I have only had it a couple of weeks. Any imput would be great. And any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would love to help Mainer but I've had my XLT for 7 years and I seem to do best with the preset programs.

my standard search starts out with pre amp 3 - ac sens 58 I will adjust ac only when site
conditions warrant(I rarely touch pre amp).the xlt has a very wide range of controls and
some settings work for some some not.my settings would get me yelled at and accused of
cheating someone if I suggested my settings.

The XLT will out perform the 2500 in many situations. You cannot compare the settings between the two. Run the detector as hot as you can and the depth will be there. Where you have it set seems to be the max for the spot you were checking . It may be different in other places and probably will be.

I have to change the settings, as far as sensitivity goes, in the same park. I know in one portion of an older park here in town, I can crank the AC up to about 69-70 with a pre-amp of 4 and get no chatter whatsoever, but as I get closer to the middle of the park, I have to drop the pre-amp to 3, and as I hit the back of the park, the chatter becomes unbearable unless I drop the pre-amp to 2 and take the AC down to 65 or so. There's a set of high-tension lines that runs across the rear boundary of the park that causes this.

^0 cycle interference can hinder any detecors performance. And yes you canencounter many different set ups as the ground can change dramatically even in one park . This is why a detector like the XLT or DFX is better in my book . Just the fact that you can make adjustments to keep it as hot as you can. 8)

I do like to make adjustments to the detector, but the only thing I want is for someone to make a large DD coil for the XLT. Anyone heard of one?

In Tennessee and South Carolina soil AC SENS at 70 and the Pre-Amp at 3 is about the max for me too. But, you can reverse it. Turn the Pre-Amp Up and the AC Sens down. Do a google search for "Beserker Light" and it will pull up an XLT program that has the reverse settings. I use this program quite a bit in the non-trashy areas. It has really great depth, too.

Hey Thank you for that program Put it in today had to customize it of coarse but overall Am very happy with it. Got rid of most of my falsing too. Got 5 wheats and some clad no silver coins yet though with the xlt but I know they are there. Thank to all. HH

There was a large double D coil for the Classics and XLT several years back. Sold in Germany, designed by a bloke in Holland.
I'll see if I can find the name/price. Worked really well on the Whites Turbo.

I just purchased a White's XLT detector and wanted to know if anyone could tell me of available books or materials that explain in layman terms the proper way to use the equipment. I have tried to use the "preset" programs and found pennies in the back yard but what do all the adjustments do?

I see what the Whites' guys say, but isn't the correcct answer, use the pre-set prgrams and dig everything until you're confident otherwise? j
