I thought it ran at the standard 6.6 like other White's.

A frequency all it's own. But the "made only for Kellyco" classic detectors run the same 8.3 khz. Go to the Whites web site and look up prizm coils. There it will tell you 8.3

Here are the operating frequencies of White's current detectors.

    DFX- 3 and 15
    XLT- 6.5
    MXT- 14.7
    M6 - 14.7
    GMT- 48
    Beach hunter- 3-15
    Surf PI pro- PI
    Sierra Madre/ULA3- 6.5
    PRL- 6.5

I went and looked at the Prizm coils. True it says 8.3 khz.
If you go a step further and look at the compatibility chart. click below, there is a discrepency.

I've place a call to the Wthie's engineer who designed the Prizm, Mr. Earl, to see why there is a difference.

    Re: Prizm Question

    Kas,
I see where you could be confused. That chart should read 950 coil, not Prizm 9.5 coil. I know Whites will have to fix that. The Prizm series needs a 4.5 to 6 inch coil to complete the package. I usually run smaller coils and feel the 8 inch coil is the best size available the Prizms offer. I just don't know why Whites hasn't made a small coil yet.

    Re: Prizm Question

The 9.50 denotes the size 91/2 inches in diameter.

To the left of the link I posted it says 6.59khz. That is what I was mentioning. Those are the operating freqs for the detector and the coils they use.

The 950 coil for DFX is different than the 9.50 for the prizm. I'm sure that is why it says Prizm 9.50.

Okay, here's the scoop. The prizm operates at approx- between 8.5 and 9.0. That's what the engineer tells me.

    Re: Prizm Question

I have seen it written either 8.6 or 8.3 kHz. I don't know why an engineer can't say what frequency they are shooting for? I just know that you have to use Prizm coils on it.

    True about the coil.
I told him the same thing. Why is it somewhere around mid 8 to but less than 9

I guess it's too hard to fine tune, or board variance.

    Re: Prizm Question

I have a stupid question. I recently bought a prizm II since I am just starting out, but when I set it up and went on my first outing I realized that the coil is for a Prizm IV. Is this going to affect my detecting, having a Prizm IV coil on a Prizm II body?

    Sparrow,
All the Prixm coils fit one another. Hunt on my friend.
