CM 6000 Di/Series 3 Equal to?

I have a White's Coinmaster 6000 Di/Series 3, how does this compare to today's units? It's a knob fest when adjusting, but it seems to have a lot of the desired features. I'd like to know how experienced users compare it to today's units, Prizm, Ace 250, etc. What can the new ones offer that this older unit cannot?

I own a Series 3 which I purchased new in the 80's. It was high end then and THE detector to have. Found a lot of coins and relics with it.

It was and still is a fine detector. I can't tell you how it compares to today's low end (Ace 250) as I only buy high end. The ID function was a relatively new feature at the time and the depths which you could ID coin types on the analog meter was pretty shallow. It did not have tone ID, pinpoint mode or digital ID numbers as well as other features on today's detectors. The older units did not ID good targets around trash as well as today's units.

My feelings on this - if this is what you can only afford- enjoy it and have fun. You don't need to have the latest and greatest to find good stuff. However, if you do get addicted move up to a later model as soon as possible. I had to buy a hipmount carrier for my Series 3 as I could not handle the weight for a full day of detecting. Today's models such as the Ace 250 are light and a pleasure to use. Just the weight is reason enough to consider today's models. You will also have other issues to deal with - repair? battery issues- other size coils needed but not available- etc on older models.

All I can tell you is about two weeks ago I went to an all DFX only hunt, but you could bring a friend who had a different kind of machine.
This guy shows up with a beat up CS 6000 di series 3 and commenced to kick our DFX'N hind-ends all weekend. He found more silver and coins than anyone.

He had his box detached from the rod and hooked around his waist. All he was swinging was the rod.

I'm going to buy one of those machines.

Well, I've been practicing with the old unit and the weather is going to break tomorrow. I'm off to search the grounds of a 200+ year old farm house. I found an 1836 large cent near there about 27 years ago with a cheap Radio Shack unit. I know the area and owner well and feel there has to be more there just waiting for me to sift through the junk metal to find. I think that will be the greatest test to the CM 6000's use.

Man that is a fine old machine...They worked well in the day, and they still do...I think I heard Whites will refresh the unit for a small fee..Not sure if that is the case, but I would look into it...Enjoy.....
