Opinions on White's Beachhunter ID

I already own an MXT and love it, but am a little nervous about behavior of MXT in wet and (San Diego). I talked to White's and they explained best way to use it, but I'm more concerned about ruining it by getting wet. AS such, I'm looking for a new beach detector and was curious about anyone's experience with the BeachHunter ID machine.

Seems expensive, but I love my MXT so I'm curious if the the BeachHiunter ID is a good machine also

It is a good machine , but the coil floats. And can give false reading when surf hits coil...Thay have a underwater coil you can purchase. I have not done this.
Other than the coil problem , I have had no problems with mine. Finding things on beaches 8 to 12 inches deep.
Although I would buy the Excalibur 800 or 1000 if I were to do it again. For a few hundred more dollars you get 125 ft depth, compared with 25 ft on the beach hunter, and the coil is a sinker...

When you purchase the underwater coil you need to send it in to Whites to have it installed. Mine worked well except for the coil floating and trouble in the waves washing over the coil in some areas . The Excal is the top of the line for beach hunting and any serious water hunter would agree, and deeper than all others execpt PI's.

All water detectors are more expensive than the land versions due to the waterproofing and beefed up parts for the water and beach usage.

Thanks for the ocmments guys...very informative...what I'm trying to decide upon is either the White Beachhunter of the Tesoro Sand Sahrk...I like that you don't have to manually ground balance the Sand Shark, but I like the feature of the Beachhunter that it does discriminate

The beach hunter is a good machine I have found that it dose not overly like saltwater I beach and scuba hunt own a beach and surfmaster also jw 8 and as a gift i received Garrett sea hunter. I have and do use aqua something industrial unit and Excalibur's and in my opinion bang for the buck seahunter mark 2 if you want to go whites get the surfmaster with weighted coil

reasons for Garrett
sealed unit no chance of leaking on electronics
preset function or manual gives you the choice (preset usually means less range)
interchangeable coil
i have dug dimes on there side 9 inches on a saltwater beach
only down side is the handle it seems flimsy and not comfortable at first but i haven't broke it yet and i have got use to the feeling,also takes getting use to as all new machines do
