Re: what coil for greater depth on mxt
I've heard that the spoked Super 12 coil they are now selling will give you a little more depth. In fact, its on my list to get one to try. It really depends on where you live and what you're soil is like. A DD coil would help with depth if you're hunting in a bad soil area, but they are a little harder to pinpoint with initially, until you get the hang of it.

Re: what coil for greater depth on mxt
I have found my deepest items with the stock coil. I have been using the Super 12 for about two months now and have not equaled the depth of the stock coil yet but have not been using it that long either so the verdict for me is still out. It will definitely cover some ground though which is the main reason I got it.

I have a 4x7DD, 8"DD, and 12" Super. My favorite is the little 4x7 but I have always felt that I got the most depth with the 8". Tin Nugget I'm with you on the Super 12. Just not quite sold on it, maybe I have to really give it a chance. I've only had it for about a month.

Does the 4X7DD truly work well in trashy areas? About how much depth do you get in moderately mineralized ground with it? Sorry about taking this on a tangent, but I'm really considering buying one.

I use the 4X6 anytime I am in a park or trashy area. It saves a ton of time because you can separate multiple signals quickly. Many swear by it and some swear by the 5.3. I can only vouch for the 4X6. As far as depth goes I don't think I have ever found anything over 5 inches and that is rare. usually 4 inches max for me but that's fine. I didn't get it for depth, I got it to keep me from going insane hunting parks and trashy spots.

Ever heard the adage, don't believe everything you read? Well, under ideal conditions you might get the kind of depth suggested, but seldom are we detecting under ideal conditions. Don't forget the mineralization as well as how much trash metal in the ground will determine your effective depth.
