    Prizm II

I am going to be getting a White's Prizm II here soon and wanted to see if anyone here has one or has used one. If so do you like it? Is it a decent detector?

Hi Green. I have one but I havent had it long. So far it seems like a good detector for the money. I am still learning mine. I'm sure there is better out there but like I said, for the money and as a starter machine, I am happy with mine.

Well it is a fine detector for what a person pays/ ID's great and one thing they don't tell ya / is that rain will not hurt it (at least mine worked fine after a mis-hap ) after my G-child lost it at "The farm" for over a month(in a tobacco field with plenty of rain in these here parts). Mine was covered in mud top to bottom. The battery compartment was packed with mud. Yet I touched the on button and guess what !! It worked and is going stong today . Good luck and enjoy

    Re: Prizm II

In my opinion you bought the best Prizm. The 2 goes just as deep as the 3 and 4 and only lacks maybe an inch over the 5. The 5 comes with the 950 larger coil and that's the only reason. But the 8 inch coil is much better for coin and jewelry hunting because it's smalled size. Also you can run the sensitivity way up there. The 8 inch coil glides over the ground easier than the 950 because theres no hole in the middle. You don't need all those extra features to find good stuff. Good luck.

    Bighead,
Location and research will get you the best results regardless of what detector you swing. Are you sure you didn't find that cent at 16 centimeters? That's about 6.25 inches and the Prizm's can do that no problem.

No it was about 16 inch's in wet beach sand. i thought it was a false reading but i kept digging and sure enough there was a penny!!! because I'm new to this i cant tell if its false our not so i just dig until i find something. i also have a 12 year old helper. that helps alot.

    Re: Prizm II

Only a pulse machine could possibly hit a penny at 16 inches. Was it a salt water beach? In general a detectors maximum air test is the maximum you could detect a coin in the ground. The P2 will air test a copper cent at about 8 inches with max sens and no interference. Sometimes what happens is a coin will keep falling to the bottom of the hole as you dig past it. Especially sand. Then when you finally retrieve the target your hole is real deep at that time. I suspect this is the case as I really believe you are sincere.

    Re: Prizm II

Have a Prizm II and last year dug an old soda can at 14 inches. Was just learning the machine and have learned...just dig everything. What the heck. It's good exercise especially in wet sand. Works those quads.

I use regular old cheap headphones with it, old "walkman" headphones, with a jack adaptor that I purchased at Radio Shack. Works great.

As a matter of fact, one day I thought I hit the mother load. The thing was going off like crazy. Dug about 11 inches and found...the pilings to the pier. ROFL

Have also found coins in very hard ground. Gave up on that real quick. Too hot and too many bugs for 13 cents worth of clad.

But yeah, it's a good machine. Have fun with it.

    Bighead,
All that matters is that you had fun! You don't need the deepest machine to find treasures!

Right now Radio Shack has a set of head phoes with volume control on each side for $14.99.
They are a must of you want to hear the fainter signals. Great too if you have sensitive ears!

Sounds like you got a good detector! Whites is a good name and stands behind it's product. You seldom hear of a Whites machine being returned, at least that is true for the MXT. I'm sure the other Whites are just as sturdy.

    Happy Hunting!!!!!!!

    Re: Prizm II

I recently purchased my first detector a Prizm II and I love it. It's a great little machine and it finds EVERYTHING. The depth is outstanding too. I dug a penny at over 6" today in frozen dirt. Cans sound off as 50cents though.. I only hunt parks with it and they are quite trashy so when I get tired of digging pull tabs I discriminate everything but coins and I just pluck them out out the ground one after the other. One thing is that if it says its a quarter a quarter you will find. It's extremely accurate. The pinpointing is excellent, dead center of the coil, so I don't have a need to carry a handheld pinpointer. The speaker is loud and distinct, so I don't need headphones either, solid repetitive tones are the key to finding coins. Practice air testing on several different coins and metals, and on different settings first and you will quickly learn this machine. I'm so glad I didn't spend all the extra money on bells and whistles and extra gadgets to carry around. With the Prizm II it's all you need..
