    it shows ground measurement, ground minerals.
    You can actually it in your manual! Have you read the manual?

    I never talked him down, at least not my intention. It was so easy to find it even if I don't own the MD lol

    Re: DFX Pinpointing Question

    That's a good one Big Chief. I've read the blasted book several times . I just don't have the time to rememberize it like some people. If we would get snow like we used to in the 1940's - 1970's(those were the days) , then I'd have the time to rememberize it. Damn Global Warming!!!! Besides it's faster getting my post numbers up asking the good ,bad & ugly questions Everyone has a blond moment in their life at one time or another. Wait scratch the blond one , want to be "politically correct" also. Replace it with "Brain F_rt.On to another question........ Euroweenie reminded me. Why can't white's come up with a better quality videos than that? Looks worse than "web cam" quality. With the money they bring in you would think their videos would be better.

    hahaha Brain, we have a lot of snow so I have had time to learn it lol
    I like global warming, less snow for me but not that little.

    I actually did only read the manual just before replying, good timing you had.

    Re: DFX Pinpointing Question

    Eu-citizen so since your up to date with white's can you answer that second question about the video? lol . I've figured out a lot about the DFX but not everything.Since you've read the manual, would you agree that it's "dry" or bland? Somethings in my opinion could use a little more depth. One thing that doesn't make sense is people asking for programs when dirt and hunting situations are all different no matter where you go . I'm sure that there might be some similarities but you'll have to tweak them anyways,so why not start fresh? I found some silver , paper shot gun shells& 22 cal. casings yesterday at the park . So I think that I'm on the right track.

    To answer your question....I use the bars. When I X the spot, those 2 bars give me almost perfect centering when they are at the same point. I dont rely on the depth number so much...it can read 1" and it'll be a bottle cap at 4".

    Re: DFX Pinpointing Question

    That # appears when you have the DC phase setting on. When the coil is over the target(with trigger pulled) it is the VDI # for 15kz NOT normalized scale.(which makes the VDI numbers a little higher all the way through the scale) It can also give you a VDI reading of just the soil to help with what type of programming may work better.(It is in the book) It can be extremley useful in ID'ing the target in question. You must practice with it for awhile first. Try it with various coins above ground to get a feel for it. It helps me weed out Iron that gives off good signals and various other trash. Jeff Foster book "Digging Deeper with the DFX" is highly recommended reading. It answers many questions that the owners manual does not. It is very well written for an average person to get alot out of it.

    that's what I normally do.I was Looking at the +/- number at the top left and noticed it wasn't in the same range as the VDI number.I'll just ignore it like I had been.

    Yes I can answer that one...lol They do metal detectors not cameras.
    Sounds like your doing fine Brain.
    Brain I had the same problem with my Garrett. Some manuals are "dry" but it does cover all I want to ask before buying the white's at the moment...

    deepskyal: I think you misunderstood the question.

    Re: DFX Pinpointing Question

    Don't ignore the #. Try using it to help you ID what is in the ground. Some targets will sound off with good tone but when pinpointed it can show negative numbers in the top right. This means it is typically an iron target that should not be dug. Digging deeper can help make sense of this and much more. It will speed the learning curve a great deal. With my M6 I tended to dig way more bad targets that with my DFX. But they both have a time and place to use them.

    Re: DFX Pinpointing Question

    To use that # up there in the corner (I do, all the time):

    1) Have DC Phase ON, as someone already said;
    2) Move the coil off to one side of the target;
    3) Squeeze the trigger first, and then move the coil over the target (so first you're measuring the ground and then the target).

    The VDI# shown will be 15 KHz Raw - so an I.H. penny that read +52 in Best Data (dual freq. Normalized) would read +78.

    I'll insert a pic of a spreadsheet derived from info posted here on T-net in '06, by TheBeepGoesOn, I believe (Thanks, bud!)

    Re: DFX Pinpointing Question

    Brian, I assume you're using VCO (doesn't everyone?) I've found that when detecting a deep target that setting your DC Sens to the lowest setting that you can while still hearing the target in pinpoint mode will make those aluminum cans at two inches a lot more friendly to your ears. I typically set my DC Sens at 15-20 & have had no problems even at targets 8" deep. It makes pinpointing very accurate.
    The only time I use a higher DC Sens is when I'm in all metal or mixed mode.

    Good advise on using the D.C. Phase. I use it all the time. After more experience you'll be able to convert that number to a regular VDI number.
