Alright..help the new White's guy, let's talk Eclipse 5.3 and Excelerator 4.5x7!
Hey all,
I just bought a White's MXT and found silver on my very first trip with it. It was a 1946 Rosie at 7.5 inches! The stock coil is now driving me nuts! I need a smaller coil with good separation for these darn trashy areas. White's admits that the 5.3 has better depth than the 4x6 (in videos on homepage), but after reading testimonials, the Exc 4.5x7 sounds awesome. Anyone have experience with either...or better...both? I would really appreciate the input.
Thanks in advance!
~Tom

I prefer the 5.3 with a LOT less disc in trashy areas. I dont mind the noise and can seperate good tones. That said the DD coils do cover more area and in trashy areas you arent going DEEP unless you start digging everything and clean out the junk. The MXT has more power in the box than anyother Whites detector so dont be afraid to turn it down a bit.

So, you ended up getting the MXT after all, that's great! Consider the 6X10 as your first coil purchase. In my experience it is not quite as deep as the 9.5 or super 12 but close. The nice thing about the 6X10 is it is a great target separator yet can still cover ground which is great for parks which can change conditions quickly as you detect. It really has to get trashy like football field sidelines or very old parks before it becomes a pain. When it does get that trashy I use the 4X6 DD. Greatest little coil I have ever used for very trashy sites. True, it does lose some depth but how deep can you get in heavy trash anyway although I am not knocking the excellerator coil because I have never used it.

Congrats on your new MXT.....your going to love it. I have both of the DD coils and to tell you the truth I like the 4x6DD best. Haven't tried the 6x10.....it's on my wish list.
...Wait a minute....just slow down.... you're gonna miss this....you're gonna want this back.....

I agree with Tin Nugget on the 6x10. In some areas around here the old homesteads are in pretty mild ground and I can turn up the gain on my MXT to almost +2. I have dug some small door looking hinges at an honest 12". No coins that deep yet though. I have both the coils you are talking about and for me they were too small. I constantly found myself going faster and faster trying to cover ground. I have 4 extra coils for my MXT and the 6x10 stays on 99% of the time. It separates plenty good for me.

Thanks all, I didn't realize that 4.5x7" was $200, I may have to find another option, that's almost a third the cost of an MXT!!!

I use the 4x6 almost all the time anymore. It really separates the signals.

I suggest the 6x10 DD. Tried and proven to be one of the best complements to the MXT. Also it is about $100 less than some of the newer coils. Some say you loose depth with the 6x10 but since you can run higher senc in more mineralized ground than you can the stock 950, you really arn't loosing depth per say.

I just ordered the 5"dd excellerator coil from Kellyco for $100. It will be delivered tomorrow and I will air test it and let you know what it will do. Theoretically, it will get better depth and will work better in mineralized conditions better than the coils that you mention. Should be just the thing in trashy areas. Just my thought....

when you have tried it out let me know how it does, I have 6x10 & 4x6 I am trying to find a smaller coil that will get better depth than what I have. 6-7" max on a quarter in wet soil
