Re: Whites Beach Hunter 300 Any test?
This detector is the same thing with a larger coil is all. At least this coil doesn't float which is why I got rid of the orginal one I had. The field test is at http://losttreasure.com/fieldtests/A...?ID=LT20080723

Why a straight shaft Where do ya get one Got a Beach Hunter last summer and already found 8 gold rings with it (even some diamonds), but I do notice it hard to hold on to. I always want to grab lower than where the grip is......know what I mean?

Beach Hunter finds since bought.
A straight shaft makes your machine balance much better and you are able to swing it much easier. The old beachhunter ID like you have, has the floating coil, which makes it even harder to use in the water and the straight shaft will help here also. I have a Anderson shaft but there are many good ones on the market, and some good deals on used ones around.
I bought this two weeks ago. It is my first. I live near the beach in Florida close to Destin. I am finding coins in areas combed over by many hunters. I have yet to find any jewelry. I have found a few nice fishing items and some tools. I could not be happier with it. I tend to crank up the sensitivity and run it on all metal, as it seems to go deeper this way. I have not found much use for the Ground switch so I get a lot of noise off the Salt water and Sand but not enough to make me miss anything I do not think? Anyone have any advice on the sensitivity and ground switch settings? I love the machine. It seems to pinpoint really well especially if I put it in all metal and turn the sensitivity down once I find a target. People keep telling me to try it in the water. I want to but brrr it is winter! I have put 35 hours on this machine in two weeks =).
What I do is move the toggle switch and hunt in AM Mode, but I hunt only in the water. In AM metal mode the lights still do work however the tones only differ in disc. and it always gives one tone in AM.
I have had the best success running on the preset unless it is a real clean area then I will raise it up some until it starts to false, ground balance is best about halfway on the dial.
Sometimes if I get a target in AM mode mode I will toggle to disc. and check the signal that way to see how strong and deep the target is.

Those are some nice rings Bill..
I am still holding off on getting a new 300 since I have enough water detectors now I have trouble deciding which one is gonna be the best for the job. Lately I've been thinkin' the larger coil on the BHID will get me the depth like a PI Pro and give me disc too.
