A quick hello from the new guy

Hello guys and gals. Just thought I would make a quick post to say hello from the new guy from Wisconsin. I have lurked around the forum for quite a while reading and learning, but did not register until today. I am always hungry to learn about history, treasure legend, and other cool stuff specifically around the Wisconsin area. My interest runs the gamut from local history to treasure lore, the knights templar, oak island, Nazi treasure, and beyond.

I hope to learn more from you guys and gals and maybe I can educate a few of you on some things too. I have interest in getting a MD, but am too green yet to know the good, bad and otherwise when it comes to them. I also dont know how much time I can devote to it since I am busy with work and 3 kids, so I dont want to spend money on something only to see it collect cobwebs. Maybe if there are some of you in my area I could tag along and see what its all about before I make and decisions?

Thanks for the great video and info. After watching the video, looking around at the Manufacturer websites for the models you mentioned, I really like the ACE 250. The price is far below what I was expecting to have to spend for a decent entry level MD. I am glad to see that since I am a greenhorn to this whole thing. The last time I played with an MD was when I was a kid and my dad had a unit from radio shack. I am wondering if you can offer any more insight if this would be a good choice for me in my area.

I am in Wisconsin and am planning on having some fun MD'ing in local parks and maybe on or near the swimming beaches. Our area is extremely sandy soil, but my hometown is on a HUGE deposit of red granite, and the city was built around the granite quarry. The quarry has long since closed, but the quarry didnt even put a dent it what is in the earth yet. Wondering if this has an impact on what kind of MD I would need to look at? Any help or insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated. If you need to know anything else about my area that would help in making a recommendation, please let me know. I think the Ace 250 would be a great detector for you to start with. I would also look into the Tesoro Cibola Tesoro Metal Detectors - Official company web site with metal detector models for treasure hunting land or water. and personally would choose the Cibola over the Ace 250 because it is deeper in most soils, more stable, and is lighter.

Thanks for the help Terry. After your suggestion, I stated looking around and found a few good side by side comparisons of the ace and the cibola. Looks like if I can swing the extra hundred or so, the cibola would be the way to go.

My parents have a place in Montello. Cool town. I went to the big park there and found a t9ken for an old cigar and billiards shop that was around in the 40's.

I saw that post and replied to it. Wondering what you found out about it, if anything? I know quite a bit about local history and didn't recognize the business name at all. If you have interest, I can put out my feelers to my contacts at the historical society and see what we can learn.

Awesome! Loved watching the show last summer and my passion for the entire oak island mystery convinced a bunch of my Co workers to start watching and wondering.

I'm south of you a ways, but still have fun. Is the snow gone from Montello yet?

We don't have any soil problems in Wisconsin that I'm aware of; either sand or clay, with not a lot of mineralization. Your red granite won't matter a bit.

Iron will be your biggest challenge, since it can mimic a lot of materials in various stages of oxidation. I haven't operated either of the machines that Terry recommended, but I'd take his word for it.

All l'd add is a Propointer, unless you figure you need to earn your stripes first.
