Just to clarify here folks, there are only three levels of security clearances.

Confidental, Secret and Top Secret (FOUO or For Official Use Only is more of a document marker than a clearance level.) Each level has a definition as to a general sensitivity of the classification. I don't know the exact verbage but for instance, Top Secret information is considered to have an immediate and dire impact on our nation's security and most certainly loss of American life as a result of it's disclosure.

Our security programs are compartmented to reduce risks, increase oversight and control and mitigate damages related to information leaks. It IS a need to know basis. You're 'read into' a program, sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) and you're 'read out' of a program and fill out the appropriate debriefing documents as soon as your work is complete.

There is no 'above top secret', 'GS-14 classified' or 'ultra top secret.' Only three. I know this is a print forum, so I don't want to come off as sounding like a douche-bag know-it-all or like I'm talking down to someone. This is just one of my few pet-peeves, the other one being hoe the District of Columbia is lazily referred to as Washington, but I'll save that for another time!

Airborne ( know this is a old thread but) the levels you speak of also have sub-classifications. I once held a TS-SIOP. Don't think it's used anymore. Area 51 has a blacked out plane that flys out of Macarran airport. I've known some that worked there, also knew. Because of the clearance I held, don't ask certain questions. Even a friend has to report some things.

There is a good book called, "the day after roswell" written by a very high ranking member of the government. The book not only speaks about area 51, but the crash in Roswell and everything that has come after. You can now get it for free online. Skeptics and believers would all get something from it.

please note folks that the fed govt DOES have folks that watch the internet and that they DO have computer programs that filter the net for keywords to "kick" stuff to the WATCHERS to look at ... so be careful what you post and where you go on the net --or you might get on a "list" somewhere

my young niece found it out the HARD WAY ... she posted a photo of her and a young girl friend --with 3 pot plants that they found in the woods behind my cousins house online * --well about 10 days later --up drives a whole butt load of swat team type dressed cops and dea types --looking for the "major pot field" --niece was told that unless she took them to the field that she would be arrested --so she took them to the 3 pitiful plants ---the moral; of this story --be careful what you post and yes THEY ARE WATCHING FOLKS,,

Sonic booms are quite common around Airforce bases. I couldn't count how many I heard at Nellis AFB. I haven't been around any lately but I will tell you it's something to see an F4 phantom take off and within seconds go vertical and boom then gone

back in the 80's, I worked for a defense contractor and made trips out there to deliver docs or parts. Flew with a couple of national senators one day. Boy were they upset when I could deplane (due to my clearance level and they had to wait for armed escort.
