Heading 1 full oz. of 18K gold w/six-pointed genuine black star sapphire
Description The anonymous finder of this unique ring must have taken a deep breath when he heard the appraiser say, "$2,100"! Containing nearly a full ounce of 18K two-toned gold, the handcrafted ring has a dragon's mouth and flames on either side, and is topped by a bold cabochon-cut, six-pointed genuine black star sapphire. And where did he discover this exotic masterpiece of the jeweler's art? Only minutes from home, at a local park. "It was a beautiful Sunday morning, and I was itching to get out of the house, even though we were expecting company in an hour or two. So, promising my wife that I'd be back in plenty of time, I grabbed my detector and dashed off to try my luck in an area of the park that I'd noticed earlier that week. "Finding only a few clad coins, I decided that it wasn't quite the hotspot I'd hoped it would be, and I didn't have all day. A small soccer field seemed the best bet for a pocketful of easy pennies, and I worked a pattern around it until it was time to head for home. Then, on the way back to the car, I got a signal from a target 3-1/2" deep. An older coin, perhaps? "Popping it to the surface, I saw what I thought was a lump of gold foil. But when I picked it up, there was a surprising heft that told me I'd better take a second look. "My eyes almost bugged from my head! I'd found a large man's ring... my first... with a dark stone." Excited by the find and suddenly realizing that I was almost surely going to be late, I literally ran back to the car and must have flown the distance home. "Later that day, after bidding our guests good-bye, I finally had a chance to clean off the ring and show it to the family. The kids agreed that it was 'neat,' but my wife wasn't overly impressed. If it's not a lady's ring with a blazing diamond solitaire, she's just not interested... although she did perk up later, when I got the good news about the appraisal! "About the photos: The star effect or 'asterism' is difficult to capture on film, but you can see hints of one or two rays. Also, there may seem to be a bluish hue, but that's only due to the lighting. Once you view it in person, there's no doubt about it: the stone is black. And compared to the more familiar cornflower blue color, black star sapphires are far less common. In fact, they're so seldom seen that I had a difficult time locating someone who could appraise it properly. "Why do I consider it my best find? Rarity, beauty, craftsmanship, pride of ownership... this ring has it all. True, my wife would still have preferred that I find a big diamond ring, but for now I'm happy with my beautiful black star sapphire ! "
